I open this section with the first topic on a book that I read recently (which was recommended in an issue of VA) and that I personally loved: The Poacher of God by René Fallet. It is no more than 250 pages and reads extremely quickly, therefore ideal for those who are not used to reading or who do not like large works (which is understandable). A brief summary of the story is necessary: a monk falls in love with a young woman in the countryside of the Loire region in the 1960s and decides to leave the orders in order to seek his own faith and his own God, that of the pleasures of drink and the flesh. The language is excellent, full of expressions of the time, it breathes the land. Certain jokes would today be banned by cancel culture, which is a guarantee of quality in my opinion! In short, a short story that I invite each of you to discover. |
